Lenovo ThinkBook Plus leaked renders show detachable Android display

Allegedly, leaked renders of the upcoming Lenovo laptops are floating around Chinese social media. The Lenovo ThinkBook Plus renders are particularly interesting, as reported on by Liliputing, because they feature a laptop with a detachable display. What makes this detachable display most interesting however, is the fact that it becomes an Android tablet when detached.

Lenovo ThinkBook Plus, PC and tablet

2-in-1 laptops aren’t anything new; many companies make laptops today that also function as tablets. Most of these have the screen fold completely back, allowing you to hold the entire device as a tablet.

Detachable displays, as shown in the leaks here, aren’t really a thing. There are tablet PCs out there that you can attach a keyboard to, but an entire laptop with a detachable display is completely unheard of.

Furthermore, what really sets the Lenovo ThinkBook Plus apart is the operating system differences. Tablet PCs almost always run Windows, keyboard or not. The ThinkBook Plus will be the first of its kind; a Windows laptop whose display becomes an Android tablet when detached. Truly fascinating stuff, the viability of which remains to be seen.

Other leaked Lenovo laptop renders

The post that leaked these renders also gave us a glimpse at other upcoming Lenovo laptops. The ThinkBook 13x renders are of note; showing a really sleek laptop with a very thin chassis and a screen with extremely thin bezels. The new LOQ and Legions laptops were also shown off, still sporting the elegant but slightly “gamery” aesthetics.

Lenovo’s Yoga lineup seems to be mimicking Apple’s designs, with the new Yoga series laptops looking somewhat similar to the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro. The Yoga Book 9i seems to be an exception, and is a 2-in-1 laptop with a secondary display above the keyboard. Other laptops seem to be more or less the same, but with upgraded specs.

The Lenovo ThinkBook Plus might set a new precedent for the laptop industry, or it might just fizzle out of existence after poor sales. Or, it might become a cult classic and develop a small but dedicated fan following, leading to many more being built in the coming years. We’ll have to see where Lenovo’s newest innovation takes them.
